August 1 has been designated as Clergy Sexual Abuse Awareness & Prevention Day, an event to be celebrated with various activities throughout the month of August. Clergy sexual abuse (also known as misconduct and exploitation) is a prevalent problem in every denomination and faith community around the globe. The goal is to raise awareness of the issue of clergy sexual abuse and its devastating and destructive effects on individual lives, congregations and religion as a whole.

This campaign is necessary because the issue of clergy sexual abuse is little understood by most people. Education and awareness are essential in both prevention and healing.

News reports abound about spiritual leaders having an "affair" with a teen or adult, male or female. The term "abuse" is rarely used in the media, though it needs to be understood and labeled as such.

1 আগস্টকে ধর্মযাজক যৌন নির্যাতন সচেতনতা ও প্রতিরোধ দিবস হিসাবে চিহ্নিত করা হয়েছে, এটি আগস্ট মাস জুড়ে বিভিন্ন ক্রিয়াকলাপের সাথে উদযাপিত হবে। ধর্মযাজক যৌন নির্যাতন (যা দুর্ব্যবহার ও শোষণ হিসাবেও পরিচিত) বিশ্বজুড়ে প্রতিটি সম্প্রদায় এবং বিশ্বাসী সম্প্রদায়ের একটি প্রচলিত সমস্যা। এর লক্ষ্য হল ধর্মযাজকদের যৌন নিপীড়নের বিষয়ে সচেতনতা বাড়ানো এবং ব্যক্তিগত জীবন, জামাত এবং সামগ্রিকভাবে ধর্মের উপর এর ধ্বংসাত্মক ও ধ্বংসাত্মক প্রভাব।

এই প্রচারটি প্রয়োজনীয় কারণ পাদ্রিদের যৌন নির্যাতনের বিষয়টি বেশিরভাগ লোকই বুঝতে পারে না। প্রতিরোধ এবং নিরাময়ের জন্য শিক্ষা এবং সচেতনতা উভয়ের প্রয়োজনীয়।

আধ্যাত্মিক নেতাদের একটি কিশোর বা প্রাপ্তবয়স্ক, পুরুষ বা মহিলার সাথে "সম্পর্ক" থাকার খবর প্রচুর। "অপব্যবহার" শব্দটি মিডিয়াতে খুব কমই ব্যবহৃত হয়, যদিও এটি বোঝার এবং এটির মতো লেবেল করা দরকার।

 

What is Clergy Sexual Abuse?

Clergy Sexual Abuse happens when a person with religious authority intentionally uses their role, position, and power to sexually harass, exploit, or engage in sexual activity with a person. This involves sexualizing conversations (including on the phone, through social media or email), asking for or transmitting unwanted sexual images/text, touching or hugging people who do not want to be touched, pushing for sexual involvement, creating pressure and hostility when boundaries are set, using sexual language and jokes, pressing or rubbing up against a woman, or invading personal space. The sexual activity can include but is not limited to touching sexual organs (over or under clothing), kissing, oral sex, masturbation, intercourse, and rape. Clergy Sexual Abuse is about the misuse of power by the perpetrator and the inability of the victim to provide consent because of the power differential.

ধর্মযাজক যৌন নির্যাতন তখন ঘটে যখন ধর্মীয় কর্তৃত্বের অধিকারী ব্যক্তি ইচ্ছাকৃতভাবে তাদের ভূমিকা, অবস্থান এবং ক্ষমতা ব্যবহার করে যৌন হয়রানি, শোষণ বা কোনো ব্যক্তির সাথে যৌন ক্রিয়াকলাপে লিপ্ত হয়। এর মধ্যে রয়েছে যৌনতাপূর্ণ কথোপকথন (ফোনে, সোশ্যাল মিডিয়া বা ইমেইলের মাধ্যমে), অবাঞ্ছিত যৌন ছবি/টেক্সট চাওয়া বা প্রেরণ করা, স্পর্শ করতে চায় না এমন লোকদের স্পর্শ বা আলিঙ্গন করা, যৌন সম্পৃক্ততার জন্য চাপ দেওয়া, সীমাবদ্ধতার সময় চাপ এবং শত্রুতা তৈরি করা সেট করা হয়, যৌন ভাষা এবং কৌতুক ব্যবহার করে, একজন মহিলার বিরুদ্ধে চাপ দেওয়া বা ঘষা, বা ব্যক্তিগত স্থান আক্রমণ করা। যৌন ক্রিয়াকলাপে যৌন অঙ্গগুলি (পোশাকের উপরে বা নীচে), চুম্বন, ওরাল সেক্স, হস্তমৈথুন, সহবাস এবং ধর্ষণ অন্তর্ভুক্ত থাকতে পারে কিন্তু তা সীমাবদ্ধ নয়। ধর্মযাজক যৌন নির্যাতনটি অপরাধীর দ্বারা ক্ষমতার অপব্যবহার এবং ক্ষমতার পার্থক্যের কারণে ক্ষতিগ্রস্থ ব্যক্তির সম্মতি প্রদান করতে অক্ষমতা সম্পর্কে।

 

What is sexual abuse within the ministerial (clergy, religious or lay) relationship?

Sexual abuse happens when someone in a ministerial role (clergy, religious or lay) engages in sexual contact or sexualized behavior with a congregant, employee, student or counseling client in the ministerial relationship.

Sexual abuse can include physical contact from the person in the ministerial role, such as: Sexual touch and "accidental" touch of sexual areas of the body, Tickling and playful aggression that seem uncomfortable to you, A prolonged hug when a brief hug is customary behavior, Kissing on the lips when a kiss on the cheek would be appropriate, Pressing up against your body when hugging, an inappropriate gift from your religious leader (such as lingerie), or Sexual intercourse with your religious leader,

Sexual abuse can also include verbal behavior initiated by a person in a ministerial role when such behavior sexualizes a relationship. These are like: Innuendo or sexual talk, Suggestive comments, Tales of his or her sexual exploits or experiences, Questions about the intimate details of your relationships, or Looking for sympathy about his or her partner's sexual inadequacies,

 

ধর্মযাজক,  বা নিযুক্ত ধর্মীয় মন্ত্রীর সম্পর্কের মধ্যে যৌন নির্যাতন কী?

যৌন নিপীড়ন তখন ঘটে যখন একজন মন্ত্রী পদে (ধর্মযাজক, ধর্মীয় বা নিযুক্ত) মন্ত্রীর সম্পর্কের একজন মণ্ডলী, কর্মচারী, ছাত্র বা কাউন্সেলিং ক্লায়েন্টের সাথে যৌন যোগাযোগ বা যৌন আচরণে জড়িত হন।

যৌন নিপীড়নে মন্ত্রীর ভূমিকায় থাকা ব্যক্তির শারীরিক যোগাযোগ অন্তর্ভুক্ত হতে পারে, যেমন: যৌন স্পর্শ এবং শরীরের যৌন এলাকায় "দুর্ঘটনাক্রমে" স্পর্শ, টিকলিং এবং খেলাধুলা আগ্রাসন যা আপনার কাছে অস্বস্তিকর বলে মনে হয়, একটি সংক্ষিপ্ত আলিঙ্গন যখন একটি দীর্ঘ আলিঙ্গন প্রথাগত আচরণ, গালে চুমু দিলে ঠোঁটে চুমু খাওয়া যথাযথ হবে, আলিঙ্গন করার সময় আপনার শরীরের উপরে চাপ দেওয়া, আপনার ধর্মীয় নেতার অনুপযুক্ত উপহার (যেমন অন্তর্বাস), অথবা আপনার ধর্মীয় নেতার সাথে যৌন মিলন,

Why is it wrong?

Sexual contact or sexualized behavior within the ministerial relationship is a violation of professional ethics. There is a difference in power between a person in a ministerial role and a member of his or her congregation or a counselee. Because of this difference in power, you cannot give meaningful consent to the sexual relationship.

Individuals usually seek counseling or support from their religious leader at times of stress or crisis. During these times, you are emotionally vulnerable and can be taken advantage of by a religious leader.

 

কেন এটা ভুল?

ধর্মযাজক,  বা নিযুক্ত ধর্মীয় মন্ত্রীর  সম্পর্কের মধ্যে যৌন যোগাযোগ বা যৌন আচরণ পেশাদার নৈতিকতার লঙ্ঘন। মন্ত্রীর ভূমিকায় একজন ব্যক্তি এবং তাঁর মণ্ডলীর সদস্য বা পরামর্শদাতার মধ্যে ক্ষমতার মধ্যে পার্থক্য রয়েছে। ক্ষমতার এই পার্থক্যের কারণে, আপনি যৌন সম্পর্ককে অর্থপূর্ণ সম্মতি দিতে পারেন না।

মানসিক চাপ বা সঙ্কটের সময়ে ব্যক্তিরা সাধারণত তাদের ধর্মীয় নেতার কাছ থেকে পরামর্শ বা সহায়তা চাইতে থাকে। এই সময়গুলির মধ্যে, আপনি আবেগগতভাবে দুর্বল হন এবং কোনও ধর্মীয় নেতার দ্বারা সুবিধা গ্রহণ করা যেতে পারে।
